One of my clients told me she was furious with her husband and let him have it frequently. She claimed that he started it by picking on her. She was not going to sit by and be his victim. Instead she fought back, again and again. She now believes that the marriage is in peril as she has so much love to give and cannot give it. He picks on her too much.

This client has to learn how to deal with her anger. You do not need to fight back or stuff it when someone picks on you. Instead you can learn to treat your own anger as a message to take different action. I advised my client that her husband picking on her was a childlike reaction. And so she needs to treat him as a child. Tell him that his angry behavior is not acceptable in this marriage, and that if he has something to say, he needs to say it directly. If he does not start acting like an adult, she then needs to decide on the consequences. Perhaps there is an adult way of giving ‘time out’.

Do you have this problem in your marriaage? If you would like to discuss it with me, Give me a call to find out how I can help you or send me an email. I would love to hear from you.
